American President Joe Biden congratulated Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election, while also extending his “warmest wishes to the Senegalese people, who have demonstrated that the right to vote remains the threshold of democracy’s freedom.”
“I congratulate Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as the next President of the Republic of Senegal. I extend my warmest wishes to the Senegalese people, who have demonstrated that the right to vote – and the fact that this vote is counted – remains the threshold of democracy’s freedom,” said Mr. Biden, whose congratulatory message was transcribed on the US embassy’s X account in Dakar.

He emphasized that “for over six decades, Senegal and the United States have deepened their partnership, particularly coming together to combat terrorism, address food insecurity, fight the climate crisis, combat corruption, and ensure that democracy benefits all of our citizens.”
