After his father, the national secretary general, Maître Abdoulaye Wade declared the official support of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) to the DiomayePrésident Coalition for the presidential election on March 24. Karim Wade reacted on X. He explained: “Our common goal is to secure the vote of every Senegalese and to thwart the massive fraud plan orchestrated by the candidate Amadou Ba who is determined to steal the election in the first round at all costs. This collective action is essential to ensure transparency of the vote and the reliability of the results, thus guaranteeing that the will of the Senegalese people will be respected.” He continued by saying, “I invite all of you, PDS militants and leaders, allies of the Karim 2024 Coalition, and engaged citizens, to mobilize to ensure the victory of the candidate Diomaye Faye.”
The candidate rejected by the Constitutional Council further stated: “We must be determined and united to block the electoral coup orchestrated by Amadou Ba and contribute to the emergence of a fairer Senegal, where the law, justice, and equality for all prevail.”
Previously, Karim Wade expressed his deep satisfaction for “this enlightened decision.” “As our secretary general rightly pointed out, our country is at a turning point in its history, where the need to restore the rule of law and guarantee the independence of justice must prevail above all other considerations. Let us be aware that these fundamental principles, pillars of any living democracy, are seriously threatened today. Without them, every citizen is in danger, exposed to arbitrariness and injustice,” he emphasized.
He then argued that the decision of the national secretary general of the PDS to support the DiomayePrésident Coalition goes beyond a political choice. “It is a commitment to the protection of our freedoms, our rights, our dignity as Senegalese. It is a call for unity to defend our most cherished values and the future of our country. In this spirit, I make a strong appeal to all electoral committees of the Karim 2024 Coalition across the national territory and in the diaspora, to work closely with the electoral committees of the DiomayePrésident Coalition,” he specified.
