The new President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, addressed the Senegalese people for the first time on Monday evening, following his election as the 5th President of Senegal, in the aftermath of the March 24th elections.

“I pledge to govern with humility, transparency, to combat corruption at all levels, to fully dedicate myself to the rebuilding of our institutions and to strengthening the foundations of our coexistence,” he emphasized.

In the same vein, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed his appreciation to President Macky Sall for allowing free elections to take place. “Senegal will always maintain its status and remain a friendly country, a reliable ally to any partner who engages in a virtuous and mutually productive cooperation with us.”

Among his first priorities, the 5th President of Senegal outlined the following areas: “We will work tirelessly on national reconciliation and the reconstruction of the foundations of our coexistence, the rebuilding of institutions, the significant reduction in the cost of living, and inclusive national sectoral consultations on the evaluation and revitalization of public policies.”

Another important aspect of his speech is his intention to ensure the preservation of national unity. “This election took place in a context marked by a pre-electoral crisis that cost lives, caused many injuries, and saw many patriots imprisoned. We intend to turn this page to reconcile hearts, reconcile Senegalese people, and work together to achieve the hope aroused by my election and the project I carry.”

Lastly, President Diomaye Faye adds that he commits to “governing with humility, transparency, combating corruption at all levels, fully dedicating myself to the rebuilding of our institutions and strengthening the foundations of our coexistence.”
