The Council of Ministers met on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Presidential Palace, under the presidency of the Head of State, His Excellency, Mr. Macky SALL. At the beginning of his communication, the President of the Republic praised the smooth conduct of the presidential election on March 24, 2024, congratulating the Minister of the Interior, territorial administration, electoral administration, the National Electoral Commission (CENA), as well as the defense and security forces whose commitment and quality work allowed the election to take place in peace and serenity. The Head of State also welcomed the strong mobilization of voters across the national territory and abroad, as well as the transparency of the election, confirming that Senegal remains a state of law.
The President also mentioned the audience he had with the 2462 observer missions who positively assessed the organization of the election, confirming the maturity and republican anchoring of Senegalese democracy. The President reiterated his congratulations to the candidate Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar FAYE, elected in the first round as President of Senegal. The President requested the Government to prepare all the necessary documents for the smooth transition of power to the newly elected President.
Continuing his communication on the end of the Government’s mission and his satisfaction with the implementation of the Emerging Senegal Plan, the Head of State took the opportunity of his last Council of Ministers to thank the Senegalese people for their trust during his twelve years in office. He also thanked the friendly countries, technical and financial partners, all Governments, his Cabinet, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, and all civilians and military personnel who supported him in his daily actions in serving the Senegalese people.
The President highlighted the remarkable achievements of the implementation of the Emerging Senegal Plan, which has made significant progress in all sectors of the economy, social, cultural, and environmental life. This constitutes a notable legacy for current and future generations.
The President paid tribute to the defense and security forces, the Senegalese administration in all its components, the private sector, religious and traditional figures, youth, and women. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration for a peaceful, reconciled, resilient, prosperous, and united Senegal.
On the social climate, internal affairs management, and the upcoming national holiday on April 4th, the President instructed the Minister of the Armed Forces to ensure the proper organization of the flag-raising ceremony and celebrations across the country. The Prime Minister also praised the President’s leadership and the government members for their loyalty, strength, and determination in implementing the President’s directives.
Various ministers presented communications on international relations, agricultural campaigns, and legislative and regulatory texts during the Council meeting. The Council also examined and adopted several projects related to the organization and functioning of various institutions in Senegal.
