In the premises of 7TV to show his support for the press group of Maimouna Ndour Faye, the assaulted journalist, in the night from Thursday to Friday, in front of her home, just after finishing her show, the mayor of Dakar Barthélémy Dias spoke his mind.

The deputy-mayor of Dakar started by lamenting the assault on the head of 7Tv, currently hospitalized after a knife attack against her. Without mincing his words, Barthélémy Dias believes that “everyone knows who is behind this”. He points the finger at “those who incite the youth to violence, hatred, resentment, and who only spread lies and manipulation in the streets”.

Continuing his argument, Barthélémy Dias adds: “I call on President Macky Sall again, in the name of his political deal, I ask him to show restraint and moderation. He is opening the doors of the prison to those who have no business outside. Those who are arrested for opinion offenses should be released, those who have been arrested for participating in political demonstrations, even if they are banned, should be released. But those who are allowed to attack Tata buses, throw Molotov cocktails, burn Senegalese alive, these people should rot in prison. Those who are allowed to commit acts, to attack houses, to burn cars of political leaders, these people should not be released from prison.”

“Now if Macky Sall wants, there is no problem, he can release them. But let him know this: in the streets of this country, there are no cowards. And we must tell each other the truth: in this country, either everyone will have peace or no one will have peace…” he said.
