After the verification process of sponsorships, former Minister of Planning under the socialist regime, El Hadj Ibrahima Sall, was rejected. Nevertheless, the politician did not deem it necessary to integrate into established organizations. The leader of Tomorrow the Republic believes that “power should remain with the institutions.” For him, “even if we were not admitted, even if we thought that the work of the Constitutional Council was unfair and sometimes a bit biased in handling the files, we insist that the decisions of the Constitutional Council be considered as irrevocable and sacred decisions. And that is why, even if we are victims of it, we will continue to fight for the 19 who were selected by the Constitutional Council to be the individuals who will be finally retained.”

El Hadj Ibrahima Sall believes that one cannot criticize judicial decisions based on their interests. “We believe that the thing judged is sacred and that one must respect the decisions of justice,” said the one who describes himself as someone who “was raised under a normed State, under a serious State in which one could not even allow themselves to judge judicial decisions.” Mr. Sall still pointed out the shortcomings in the electoral procedure. “We have seen that the unavailability of the file was a problem. The second thing is that you cannot have a sponsorship process in which political parties will work for scarcity by openly demanding that no one sponsor other candidates.” An act that the former minister describes as “a market of corruption because quite simply, political parties, both from the opposition and the majority, have issued instructions for retention and others have been allowed to collect sponsorships and throw them in the trash, thus creating scarcity, but also a kind of corruption market that has led all candidates into illegal processes of buying sponsorships with another offense behind which was the use of personal data.” El Hadj Ibrahima Sall also considers the draw to be “a scandal.”

For a better procedure, El Hadj Ibrahima Sall believes that there needs to be a modification of the Electoral Code and an evaluation of the procedures, but also granting a place for the candidates’ programs. Furthermore, the former minister believes that candidates must declare their assets before “presenting themselves.” “Our presidential election has given a premium to corruption. And it is by chance that you find certain officials who are overly represented. There is no country in the world where a tax inspector is a candidate while holding the same position. In Senegal, we have had several and it is a scandal. It is processes of corruption that need to be stopped,” he added. Believing that there are conflicts of interest in several situations, El Hadj Ibrahima Sall believes that members of the Administration who aspire to lead the country must “resign.”
