The Diomaye President coalition has expressed its strong condemnation of the aggression suffered by journalist Maimouna Ndour Faye, describing the act as a “brutal and odious attack.” This unfortunate event occurred on the evening of Thursday, February 29, 2024. In their statement, the coalition showed unwavering support for Maimouna Ndour Faye, as well as her family and colleagues, by expressing “all our support and solidarity” to them. They also expressed wishes for a “speedy recovery without any lasting effects” for the affected journalist.
The coalition called on the competent authorities to investigate the circumstances of the incident and ensure that justice is served. Furthermore, a solemn appeal was made to the state, emphasizing the importance of upholding press freedom and freedom of expression. The need to strengthen the security and protection of journalists, both national and foreign, who are often targets of verbal and physical violence, was also highlighted.
In their message, the Diomaye President coalition also reaffirmed their commitment to the values of peace, democracy, and the prosperity of Senegal, concluding with the words: “Long live peace. Long live democracy. Long live Senegal.”
