Alioune Tine has deemed the comments made by Minister Moussa Bocar Thiam against the Wolof community, traders, carpenters, and masons as “serious and shocking.” The founder of the Think-Thank Afrikajom Center calls for caution in the language that national or local leaders use to prevent outbreaks of violence.

“Serious and shocking comments coming out of the mouth of a minister of the Republic, these comments violate the principles and values of democracy, especially freedom of speech, national unity, and coexistence by bringing out the poison of ethnicism,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Alert

He added, “We must pay attention to the language that national or local leaders use to prevent outbreaks of violence. This country is small, and everyone is related. Elections come and go quickly. We must show restraint and tolerance.”

Invitation

The human rights activist invites all candidates and political leaders, religious leaders, civil society leaders, and the media to promote calm, tolerance, and peace. “We must finish this electoral process on a high note. This victory will be that of democracy and Senegal,” he concluded.
