It is good news for the airline company Air Senegal, which has just received two L410 type aircraft at the Léopold Sédar Senghor military airport in Dakar on Thursday. Senegal is expanding its network of regional airports and strengthening the fleet of the national carrier to accelerate the development of domestic air traffic. Out of the five L410 NG aircraft, two were received on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Léopold Sédar Senghor military airport in Dakar, as announced by Anacim.

These 19-seater aircraft are manufactured by Aircraft Industries of the Czech industrial group OMNIPOL. The L410 NG is a turboprop wing aircraft with economical operation for the transportation of passengers and cargo on short and medium-distance routes. The Prime Minister, who presided over the ceremony, stated that “these aircraft are an important step in our vision to develop safe, efficient, and accessible air transport for all.”

According to Sidiki Kaba, since 2021, Senegal has made significant progress in the implementation of its air hub strategy with the start of operations at the international airport of Saint-Louis, the rehabilitation of the airports in Cap Skirring, Tambacounda, and Kédougou. It is expected that in 2024, the airports of Ziguinchor, Ourossogui-Matam, and Kolda will also be operational.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Air Transport and Airport Infrastructure Development, Antoine Mbengue, highlighted the contribution of all entities in the airport platform and civil-military cooperation to develop and modernize the crucial air transport sector for the economy, regional integration, and domestic tourism.

The chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Dakar explained that transport has become the main vector of cooperation between her country and Senegal. She cited examples such as the construction of regional airports under the Senegal Airports Rehabilitation Program (PRAS) by a consortium of Czech companies, the delivery of buses to Dakar Dem Dikk, and now the order for aircraft. The Director General of ANACIM, Sidy Gueye, also participated in the ceremony with his counterparts from the airport platform.
