A new government full of surprises at the moment. Surprises that raise questions in this race against time, as evidenced by the remarks of Prime Minister Sidiki Kaba earlier during the reading of the list of the new government. “We are a government on a mission,” said Me Kaba.

The storm swept away ministers known to be close to Amadou Ba, former Prime Minister and presidential candidate of the BBY coalition. Cheikh Oumar Hann, the mayor of Ndioum and former Minister of National Education, and Lat Diop, former CEO of the Senegalese national lottery (Lonase) and Minister of Sports, are not part of “this government on a mission.” It is not insignificant that their dismissal is mentioned. They are close allies of Amadou Ba. Among these allies of the former Prime Minister is Doudou Ka, who experienced a meteoric rise with the arrival of his mentor in the Prime Minister’s office. The political leader of Ziguinchor (a city in southern Senegal) was until recently the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation.

Mame Mbaye and Thérèse Faye Diouf, former opponents of the former PM, promoted

Another issue worth questioning is the promotion of the ministers Mame Mbaye Niang and Thérèse Faye Diouf. They respectively hold the positions of Minister of Sports and Minister of Family and Women. Both are known to be fierce opponents of Amadou Ba. Mame Mbaye Niang was one of the first within the APR to criticize the choice of Amadou Ba as the candidate of the BBY coalition. Madame Faye Diouf, the former head of the COJER, was also not always kind to the former Prime Minister.

In fact, she is accused of causing a commotion by breaking up the APR women’s WhatsApp group, where Ndeye Saly Dieng Diop was the administrator. A heated controversy involving the relationship between the Prime Minister and the President splashed this forum. According to insiders, this group brought together pro-Macky and Amadou Ba supporters. In the end, these women, no longer able to draw from the same source, left the group. The likes of Fatou Diané and others had moved away. She also is not part of Sidiki Kaba’s government team.

Foreign affairs, goodbye Madior Fall, Mankeur Ndiaye new entrant

Ismaela Madior Fall was starting to get comfortable at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The former Senegalese Foreign Minister had even become accustomed to defending Macky Sall. While the latter began to receive ridicule from all Western embassies. Professor Fall even took it upon himself to “defend the indefensible” in Western media and other international forums.

His successor, Mankeur Ndiaye, is one who did not hesitate to call a spade a spade when necessary. And according to some insiders, this earned him a distant removal from the Presidency and state affairs. Today, he is back in foreign affairs in a different context as Macky Sall leaves power on April 2. Madior Fall now holds the position of President’s Chief of Staff. In this role, he does not have much leeway.

As this is a government on a mission, the handover of responsibilities will take place next Monday. This announcement comes from the new Prime Minister, Sidiki Kaba.
