Senegal. This Friday, an operation led by the Central Police Station of Fatick shed light on a network of trafficking of Comorian migrants. Three individuals were brought in for various offenses, including criminal association, migrant trafficking, endangering the lives of others, and fraud. This intervention was triggered after the interception of 36 candidates for illegal emigration.
In their efforts to ensure the safety of citizens, authorities intercepted a vehicle carrying 12 Comorian nationals, including three women. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed various items and sums of money hidden in the passengers’ bags and clothing.
During interrogations, the driver confessed to being recruited to transport the passengers to Saint-Louis for a sum of 130,000 FCFA. The Comorian migrants claimed to be candidates for illegal emigration and stated that they had met their Senegalese escorts in Fatick.
Investigations led to the arrest of 24 other candidates in a residence, including eight Senegalese, thirteen Guineans, as well as nationals from other countries. Three escorts were also apprehended as part of this operation.
In total, 36 candidates for illegal emigration and three organizers were arrested. The three Senegalese escorts were brought before the Fatick prosecutor’s office to stand trial.
Meanwhile, an individual from Comoros involved in a migrant trafficking network was transferred to Dakar to the National Division for Combating Migrant Trafficking and Human Trafficking (DNLT), according to sources from Seneweb. – Misbah Said
