Kizito Amukune Moi’s death by goring from Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s fighter bull has been confirmed by a second autopsy report. The burial, originally scheduled for January 30 but postponed due to controversy over the cause of death, is now set to take place on Monday.

Local residents’ claims clashed with the post-mortem report by Western Region pathologist, Dr Dickson Muchana, which indicated that the victim died from animal injuries. The police in Ikolomani had stopped burial arrangements pending further investigations by homicide detectives and a second post-mortem to establish the actual cause of death.

Homicide detectives arrived in Kakamega to conduct forensic investigations before joining government pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, for the second post-mortem at Kakamega County General Hospital mortuary, which took place on Saturday. Dr Oduor stated that the second post-mortem was consistent with the first, revealing stab wounds with bruising around them, caused by a non-sharp object representing the horn of an animal.

The body also had injuries on the right side of the forehead, the back of the neck, and the inside of the thigh. Dr Oduor concluded that the first autopsy was correct and that the death was caused by an animal, not by a knife as previously raised.

Mr Khalwale expressed gratitude towards the detectives and pathologists for giving the matter the attention it deserved and for helping to separate facts from falsehood. He also announced that the family, bullfighting fraternity, and the Malinya community would collect the body from the mortuary on Sunday for burial on Monday.

Dr Jimmy Akhonya, representing the complainants who alleged foul play, confirmed that the victim died from multiple injuries sustained after being gored by the bull. The deceased’s elder brother, Mr Fredrick Muhanji, expressed relief that the completion of investigations and the final autopsy had cleared the air around his brother’s death. He also urged the government to help them identify the people causing the delay in his brother’s burial so that they could make claims for compensation, citing the family’s incurred expenses in organizing the funeral since Amukune’s death.

The confirmation of Kizito Amukune Moi’s cause of death and the subsequent clearance of his burial signifies a step forward for the family in their quest for closure.
