The 2023/24 Safari Tour golf series is set to resume with a field of 68 professionals expected to take on the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course starting on Sunday at 7am. Hosts Kenya will have the largest representation with 45 players, while Uganda will have 11 players, including Lady professional Irene Nakalembe. Other countries fielding players at Muthaiga include Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Namibia.
In the previous leg at Limuru Country Club, Zimbabwe’s Visitor Mapwanya was in the lead, but “Mzee wa Kazi’’ Dismas Indiza surged ahead in the final round, clinching the title with an impressive 14 under par.
Mapwanya settled for second place at 13 under par, acknowledging Indiza’s outstanding performance. Since winning the first leg at Uganda Golf Club Kitante in Kampala, Indiza has maintained top form, although the Muthaiga course has posed challenges for him in the past.
Another player to watch will be Greg Snow, who tied for third place in the previous leg and will use his home course advantage to secure his second title in the series.
In addition to Snow, several other home players, including Mutahi Kibugu, Njoroge Kibugu, Nelson Mudanyi, and Jeff Kubwa, will be competing. The course, which is being prepared for the Magical Kenya Open, is playing tough at the moment, and the winner of the Sh1 million prize-fund, courtesy of ABSA Bank, will receive Sh150,000.
At least half of the pros have been listed to play in the Pro-Am event on Saturday, also courtesy of ABSA Bank.
