Some of the teams in the Saudi Arabian Professional League are showing strong interest in signing Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong before the summer transfer window.

Italian Transfer Markt expert, Fabrizio Romano, stated on Friday that the interest stems from Troost-Ekong’s impressive performances for Nigeria. Romano mentioned that Troost-Ekong’s performance in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has caught the attention of clubs in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he has been leading PAOK to the top of the Greek Super League and Europe Conference League, garnering much happiness at the club. Despite this, the interest from Saudi Arabia for the upcoming summer transfer window is particularly strong.

Troost-Ekong played a vital role for the Super Eagles in reaching the final of the 2023 AFCON, most notably in a thrilling semi-final encounter against South Africa, which went to a pulsating penalty shootout. He scored in the 67th minute from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was brought down in the 18-yard area. Additionally, the centre-back netted the second penalty for the Eagles during the shootout.

In this match against the Bafana Bafana, who proved to be the toughest opponents the Eagles faced in the competition, Troost-Ekong’s experience and skills were on display as he demonstrated aerial dominance and won several long balls. Despite receiving a yellow card from the referee in the 120th minute, it did not detract from his excellent performance.

It is clear that Troost-Ekong’s performances in the international arena have not gone unnoticed, leading to interest from clubs in the Saudi Arabian Professional League. His leadership and strong defensive abilities have been crucial for Nigeria’s success in the 2023 AFCON. Additionally, his contributions to PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece have further solidified his status as a sought-after talent in the football world. The upcoming summer transfer window will be one to watch as clubs vie for the opportunity to secure Troost-Ekong’s services.
