Two school-going children aged between six and 15 years die every day in road crashes in Uganda, police statistics show, raising fresh concerns about road safety as schools prepare to reopen for the final term.
The figures come amid a rise in road deaths, with 5,383 people killed in crashes in 2025, up from 5,144 deaths in 2024.
Serious injuries also increased from 17,013 in 2024 to 18,444 last year.
In Kampala alone, about 407 people died in road crashes in 2025, according to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) road safety report.
