Rivers United of Port Harcourt is gearing up for their important CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal match against champions USM Alger this Sunday. The team is set to travel to Uyo today in order to finalize their preparations for the game.

Seeking to make history by qualifying for the semifinals of the CAF competition for the first time, Rivers United is leaving no stone unturned in their quest to defeat USM Alger. The club’s Media Officer, Charles Mayuku, revealed that the team had their final training session in Port Harcourt last night and are ready to move to Uyo today.

The importance of the match is not lost on the team, as they are the only remaining Nigerian club in the continent. Coach Stanley Eguma has expressed confidence in his players, stating that they are in top shape and ready to take on the champions. The match, originally scheduled for 4.00 p.m., will now kick off at 2.00 p.m. at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United finished second in Group C of the competition, behind Ghana’s Dreams FC, to secure their spot in the quarterfinals. Last year, they were eliminated at the same stage by Young Africans of Tanzania. Now, they are aiming to become the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, USM Alger, their opponents, are expected to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow. The North African team will arrive on a chartered flight and will have a chance to familiarize themselves with the Godswill Akpabio Stadium pitch on Saturday before the game on Sunday.

Both teams are determined to secure a positive result in the first leg of the quarterfinal tie, with Rivers United looking to make history and USM Alger hoping to continue their strong form in the competition. Nigerians will be eagerly watching as their sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup aims to make them proud.
