Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, has expressed dissatisfaction with the National Assembly for their approval of the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

Obi specifically said, “The parliamentary vote held yesterday clearly demonstrates that democracy, in its true sense, does not exist in Nigeria.”

The former Anambra State governor, in a post on his X handle on Friday, said democracy cannot thrive where there is no functional opposition.

The statement comes after the House of Representatives approved President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state despite stiff opposition from many Nigerians.
