Apple Music has expanded their flagship African Music playlist and radio brand, Africa Now, to include a new monthly DJ Mix created exclusively for the platform. The next artist to create an Africa Now DJ Mix is Grammy Award-winning Nigerian producer and DJ, Rexxie (real name Ezeh Chisom Faith), who rose to prominence with the release of Chinko Ekun’s culture-defining hit “Able God” (2018) featuring Zlatan and Lil Kesh, and has become the undeniable voice of the streets, soundtracking earworms like Naira Marley and Zlatan’s “Illuminati” and his smash hit collab with MohBad “KPK”.
“It’s an honour to curate this amazing playlist for the culture,” Rexxie tells Apple Music. “Africa’s time is now!”
As Marlian Music’s resident producer, Rexxie has had a hand in creating numerous era-defining tracks by an expert fusion of street-hop, gqom, pop and amapiano, and is widely credited with the the birth of afrobeats sub-genres zanku and afropiano. While also adept at crafting melodic beats and high-octane cuts, the Anambra State-native has masterfully created anthemic records that have unquestionably influenced the rise of afropop and his mix is testament to that.
