Nigerian artist Rema has been nominated for a BRITs Award in the International Song of the Year Category for his global hit ‘Calm Down’. He will be sharing the stage with other artists such as Jungle, Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue and Raye, who are all nominated for this year’s most nominated artiste.

The BRITs Awards 2024 is set to take place on March 2, 2024, and will continue its primetime slot on ITV1 and ITVX. The event will be live from The O2 arena, following the huge success of the 2023 show moving to the weekend for the first time in BRITs history.

Rema expressed his excitement at returning to the O2 to perform at the BRIT Awards this year. He is up against some formidable competition in the International Song of the Year category, including Cameroon’s Libianca and South African Grammy winner Tyla. The category also features other international artists such as Billie Eilish, David Kushner, Doja Cat, Jazzy, Meghan Trainor, Miley Cyrus, Noah Kahan, Oliver Tree & Robin Schulz, Olivia Rodrigo, Peggy Gou, SZA, and Tate McRae.

There are also other shortlisted African acts at the 2024 BRITs, including Nigeria’s Asake and Burna Boy, who are nominated for the International Artist of the Year Award. The competition includes other international artists such as Caroline Polachek, CMAT, Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and Taylor Swift.

Rema’s performance at the BRITs comes after playing in numerous European countries and states across America last year. In November, he became the latest Afrobeats star to sell out the O2 Arena. ‘Calm Down’ marked a milestone by being the first African track to reach one billion streams on Spotify, winning Rema his first Best Afrobeats Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards and making him the longest-charting African artiste on the Billboard Top 100.

British singer-songwriter and producer, Raye, leads the nominations this year with seven nods. Central Cee and J Hus are both up for four awards each, closely followed by Dua Lipa with three nominations.
