The 11th annual inter house sport competition of Silversands Hall Schools was a huge success, with Red House emerging as the overall winner. The competition, which took place on the school premises in Pinnoch Beach Estate, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, saw Green and Blue Houses finishing second and third respectively. The winners were awarded medals and trophies for their outstanding performances.
The event kicked off with a lively March Past, where students from the competing Houses – Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow – showcased their athletic talents to parents and guests. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the students participated in various activities such as bicycle rides, Sac races, picking balls, 100m races, and even a football competition between parents and students.
Dr. Nike Agunbiade-Etiebet, the Executive Director of Silversands Hall Schools, emphasized the importance of sports in education. She stated that the Inter House Sports competition helps build students’ esteem and encourages them to unleash their inner talents. She commended the parents for their support and urged them to encourage their children to participate in sporting activities.
Mr. Joseph Ogedengbe, the School Sports Coach, was impressed by the students’ skills, strength, and athletic abilities displayed during the competition. He highlighted how sports can develop leadership skills and promote peace and unity in society. He also noted that the competition serves as a motivating factor for students who may not excel academically but have other talents to showcase.
Mrs. Nicholas Osigwe Ibiwari, the School’s Head Teacher, reiterated the importance of sports in grooming children and fostering teamwork. She emphasized how sports can help bring out other hidden talents in students and develop a spirit of cooperation among them.
The parents also had the opportunity to join in on the fun and excitement as they participated in various events such as football matches, 100m races, and other games. The spirit of competition and camaraderie was evident throughout the day, with parents cheering on their children and other participants.
