The Minister for the Promotion of Gender, the Protection of Women, Families, and Children, Marthe Augustine Kirimat, inaugurated on February 27, 2024, four spaces dedicated to women and girls in Bambari.

These are the community spaces of the Ngoandji, Mbrepou, MBagolo, and Kidjigra sites. The sites are created to support and protect victims of gender-based violence (GBV). Also, a “socio-economic reintegration in an environment where GBV is not tolerated and survivors are not stigmatized.”

The long-term goal of the action is that state, civil, and community structures in the Central African Republic are able to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for women, girls, and other vulnerable people.

According to the minister, these safe spaces will mainly provide a vital entry point for women and girls; provide access to information, necessary resources, and support where the risk of violence is reduced. They will also facilitate access for women and girls to knowledge, life skills, and services, support the psycho-social well-being of women and girls, create social networks to reduce isolation or loneliness, and improve integration into community life.
