Enugu Rangers’ U-17 team captain, Igwilo Chimaobi, who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) from the Southeast zone of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Youth League, is determined to lead his team to victory in the national finals. Chimaobi’s outstanding performance saw him score four goals in three games as Rangers secured two wins and a draw to clinch the zonal ticket.

Looking ahead to the national finals in Benin, Chimaobi expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to succeed, attributing their potential success to the rigorous training they have undergone since earning their spot in the finals. “We have been working very hard to ensure that we represent our state very well in the national playoff in Benin,” Chimaobi stated in an interview with the club’s media. He also acknowledged the tough competition that they will face and highlighted the need for the team to remain focused and determined in order to achieve their goals. “It is going to be a tough championship, but by God’s grace, we shall celebrate at the end of the competition,” he predicted.

The national finals of the NPFL Youth League, catering to players aged below 17 years, will feature five teams, including Remo Stars, Rivers United, Katsina United, and Plateau United. Despite the formidable lineup of opponents, Chimaobi remains optimistic about his team’s chances and is determined to lead Enugu Rangers to victory.

Under the guidance of Coach Basil Obeta, the Rangers International squad has been undergoing rigorous training, with sessions held twice daily following their success in the zonal championships. The coaching staff, including former Rangers players Ejike Uzoenyi and Okey Odita, have been working tirelessly to prepare the team for the upcoming national finals. The squad is set to travel to Benin on Friday to prepare for their opening match against Katsina United at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium on February 26, 2024.

As Chimaobi, his teammates, and coaching staff gear up for the national finals, they are focused on the challenge ahead and remain committed to representing Enugu Rangers with excellence. With their sights set on victory and a determination to make their state proud, the team is poised to showcase their talents and compete on the national stage in pursuit of the NPFL Youth League championship.
