In a press release, the president of the Union of Private Radios in Chad (Urpt), Mekondo Sony, is closely following and paying close attention to the information that the Hama is seeking to refuse fees (press aid) to all private radios in Chad that have not paid their royalties.
According to the press release, private radios risk closing their doors. “If this information is confirmed, the Urpt fears that such a decision could lead to the closure of all private radios in Chad, especially since 2016, this is the first time this aid has been received,” the press release states.
In the same press release, the Urpt says that in the past, it has already raised the alarm about the possible closure of private radios due to the socio-economic situation characterized by fuel shortages and price increases. “If this decision is implemented, the right to inform will be severely tested,” the press release implies.
It calls on the head of state, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, to personally intervene so that this project is not implemented and that the royalties for private radios are simply abolished.
