Starfield College’s Principal, Sarah Oyinloye, recently emphasized the importance of using sports as a tool to promote teamwork and build character among students. Speaking at the school’s 11th biennial inter-house sports meet held at Agege Stadium, Oyinloye highlighted the positive impact of sports on students, including the development of determination, focus, excellence, and most importantly, teamwork. She praised the school’s sports committee and staff for organizing a successful inter-house competition and encouraged them to instill values such as sportsmanship, determination, resilience, teamwork, and excellence in the students.
Furthermore, the school’s Director of Studies, Mr. Chris Eigbe, reiterated the significance of teamwork and friendly competition in the students’ overall growth and development. He emphasized the benefits of positive engagement with school activities and urged parents to support their children in their academic and extracurricular pursuits. Eigbe called for unity, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and fairness to be upheld not just during the sports meet but in all aspects of the students’ lives.
The Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Ogunsile Abosede, represented by Mrs. Titi Apatira, lauded the school for organizing the event and emphasized its role in the holistic development of the children. The event brought together students, parents, teachers, and guests to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Head of Starfield School, Mrs. Juliana Eigbe, also emphasized the values of teamwork, dedication, and fair play in sports. She encouraged students to always give their best, compete with integrity, and support their teammates, highlighting that the essence of sports extends beyond winning to embodying important life lessons.
At the end of the competition, the White House emerged as the winner in the primary school category, with the Blue House coming in second and the Red House securing the third position. In the College category, the Blue House claimed the top spot, with the Red House and Green House finishing in second and third place, respectively.
Overall, the 11th inter-house sports meet at Starfield College served as a platform to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition among students. The event showcased the students’ athletic abilities while reinforcing important values that will guide them not just in sports but in all aspects of their lives. Through sports, students have the opportunity to develop essential life skills, forge lasting friendships, and cultivate a sense of community and unity within the school.
