The national president of the “United Chad” party, Mahamat Zene Cherif, held a press conference on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the party’s headquarters. A statement was made to announce that the United Chad Party will not field a candidate in the upcoming presidential election on May 6.

According to the president, the United Chad Party became aware of the existence of a coalition called “United Chad” supporting the candidacy of the transitional President in the presidential election. He expressed surprise and dismay at this “malicious imposture” carried out by more than 220 political parties and some associations.

He stated that “United Chad” is a property of the party in accordance with the laws in force in the Republic of Chad, particularly Article 15 of Law 032 and Article 139 of the Electoral Code.

“Despite the denunciation by the national executive committee of the party, we have noted the formal submission of a candidacy to the Constitutional Council on March 6, 2024. These deliberately orchestrated maneuvers aim to damage the reputation of our party and create confusion among our members, supporters, and Chadians as a whole,” he lamented.

“Given the usurpation and plagiarism of our dear and unique denomination of which we are victims on the one hand, and the absence of necessary conditions for free elections on the other hand, we announce with regret and despite ourselves to the national opinion and the international community that the United Chad Party, the most diverse political force, will not field a candidate in the presidential election on May 6, 2024,” justified Cherif Mahamat Zene.

Finally, the president called on members to remain calm and to refrain from any acts of violence or actions contrary to republican values and principles.
