President Azali Assoumani honored the United Nations Resident Coordinator, François Batalingaya, at a special ceremony at the Beit-Salam presidential palace. After three years of dedicated service in Moroni, Batalingaya was awarded the Knight of the Green Crescent of the Comoros in recognition of his outstanding efforts towards development and cooperation between the Comoros and the United Nations.
Accredited in the Union of the Comoros since December 1, 2020, François Batalingaya has tirelessly worked to strengthen the ties between the island nation and the global organization. President Azali Assoumani emphasized the importance of this cooperation and praised Batalingaya’s exceptional dedication. In his speech, the head of state expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the UN diplomat, highlighting his crucial role in the Comoros’ aspirations to achieve emergence by 2030.
“We appreciate the action you have taken to promote cooperation with the United Nations system. You have acted as a brother and friend to the Comoros, supporting the Comorian government in its efforts to create the conditions for the country’s emergence,” said President Assoumani.
During his tenure, the cooperation between the Comoros and the United Nations reached new heights, according to President Assoumani, who expressed hope that Batalingaya’s successor will continue his work. For his part, François Batalingaya expressed satisfaction in contributing to the emergence of the Comoros and congratulated President Assoumani on his re-election.
François Batalingaya brings with him a wealth of experience in social development and humanitarian action, acquired over 28 years at the United Nations and around the world. Before joining the UN, he worked in several countries, including as the national director of World Vision International. More recently, he held the position of Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Central African Republic.
Following this presidential recognition, François Batalingaya leaves his position as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Union of the Comoros with honor and gratitude, leaving behind a legacy of cooperation and progress towards a better future for the Comoros.
