Upcoming diplomatic deadlines on both bilateral and multilateral levels as well as irregular migration were at the center of the meeting held on Friday at the Carthage Palace between the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar.
According to a statement from the presidency of the Republic, the President recalled the constants of Tunisian diplomacy, including the trilogy of “independence of national decision-making stemming from popular will,” “rejection of any form of interference in Tunisia’s internal affairs,” and the imperative to establish external relations on a “equal footing.”
President Saïed took the opportunity to highlight the role assigned to Tunisian consuls abroad, in providing the necessary support to Tunisian nationals who travel long distances to consulates without obtaining the services they need.
Also, during the same meeting, the President discussed with Nabil Ammar the issue of irregular migration.
In this context, the President emphasized that while Tunisia provides a “humane and compassionate treatment” to migrants, it categorically rejects becoming “a transit point or a place of settlement.”
The President stated that Tunisia has never been responsible for the extent of this phenomenon. On the contrary, our country was condemned to bear the consequences of an “inhumane” world order, he said, denouncing international organizations whose reactions often amount to flat declarations or attempts to impose a fait accompli that Tunisians will never accept.
