Controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, who is better known by his stage name Portable, has made a bold claim by declaring himself a regent of the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. According to Portable, he has been given the title of “newborn Fela” by his fans and he fully embraces this moniker.

In a recent interview on the Bae U Barbi show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, Portable made it clear that he did not bestow the title of “newborn Fela” upon himself. Instead, he credited his fans, emphasizing the role they have played in his career. “I didn’t give myself the title, ‘Newborn Fela,’” Portable stated. “My fans gave it to me. You know I have a lot of fans, my fans brought me to this point.”

Asserting his confidence and resoluteness, Portable likened himself to a lion, stating, “You have to be bold, a lion don’t fear to walk alone.” This strong statement reflects his conviction in his own talents and success.

Addressing those who still consider him an up-and-coming artist, Portable confidently questioned, “Which superstar do you know that is bigger than me in Nigeria? I am the one they are talking about now: musician that is trending. My talk is trending, my slangs are trending, my movement is trending, my dressing is trending.” Clearly, Portable is not lacking in self-assurance when it comes to his status within the music industry.

Refusing to be confined by others’ perceptions, Portable doubled down on his assertion, stating, “Last year, I was upcoming this year, I am also upcoming. I will be up and coming everyday. Coming with new glory everyday. Newborn Fela. Every year is my year.” This unwavering determination and self-belief demonstrate Portable’s relentless drive to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in the music world.

In summary, Portable’s declaration that he is a regent of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and his acceptance of the title “newborn Fela” showcase his unwavering confidence and ambition. Embracing the support of his fans and boldly asserting his place in the music industry, Portable is determined to make his mark and solidify his position as a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene.
