Reality TV star Josephina Otabor, also known as Phyna, has stirred controversy with her claim that “polygamy” is reserved for the wealthy. Specifically, she suggested that actor Yul Edochie is not “very rich” enough to manage polygamy, contrasting him with billionaire businessman and lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko.

Phyna made these remarks on the latest episode of her podcast, Spill With Phyna. She expressed her belief that Yul Edochie would have been able to manage both his wives, May and Judy, quietly if he were as wealthy as Ned Nwoko. She pointed to Ned Nwoko as an example of someone managing polygamy successfully due to his wealth, citing his stress-free and peaceful lifestyle.

She clarified, “That’s what we call polygamy. That’s why I said it [polygamy] is strictly for the rich. I’m not saying Yul is not rich. He is rich but aargh.”

Phyna’s comments have ignited debate and garnered attention, with many expressing differing opinions on the matter. Some have defended Yul Edochie, arguing that wealth should not determine one’s ability to manage polygamy, while others have supported Phyna’s standpoint, emphasizing the financial requirements and implications of maintaining multiple spouses.

The controversial nature of Phyna’s statements has sparked discussions about societal perceptions of polygamy and its association with wealth. Critics have pointed out the complexity of relationships and the importance of emotional and psychological factors, regardless of financial status.

The debate prompted by Phyna’s remarks reflects the ongoing dialogue surrounding polygamy and its societal implications, bringing attention to the intersection of wealth, relationships, and cultural norms. As the conversation continues, it is evident that attitudes towards polygamy remain multifaceted and subject to varying perspectives.
