The Lagos State Police Command has refuted claims of Afro singer Ibrahim Owodunni, also known as Primeboy, being re-arrested in connection with the death of his colleague, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. Reports circulating had suggested that Primeboy was taken into custody during his visit to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti, Yaba on Tuesday.
Primeboy had previously been arrested amid the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death a few months ago, and has been making weekly visits to the SCID as part of the ongoing investigation. A viral report on Tuesday claimed that he had been re-arrested and detained by the Lagos police command during his latest visit.
However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, debunked the report as false when contacted on Wednesday. He clarified that Primeboy was released to go home on Tuesday with a requirement to report back on Wednesday, which he did.
In a conversation with a correspondent, the PPRO dismissed the rumors, stating, “False. He was allowed to go home and report back today.”
It is important to note the significance of accuracy in reporting news, as misinformation can have serious consequences. Rumors and false information can damage reputations and incite panic, highlighting the importance of verifying facts before sharing information.
The role of the media in disseminating accurate and unbiased information is crucial in maintaining transparency and accountability. Journalists have a responsibility to uphold ethical standards and present news in a fair and balanced manner.
As the investigation into Mohbad’s death continues, it is essential to allow the authorities to carry out their work without interference or distortion of facts. The public should exercise caution when consuming news and be mindful of the sources of information they rely on.
In conclusion, the debunking of the report about Primeboy’s re-arrest underscores the need for diligence and fact-checking in journalism. Trustworthy reporting is essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring that accurate information is disseminated to the public.
