Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has revealed that the team’s strategy against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon is to focus on defending as a unit and being clinical in front of the opposition goal. The coach made this statement during a pre-match press conference in Abidjan ahead of the much-anticipated clash on Saturday.

Peseiro emphasized the importance of not conceding goals and expressed his desire for the team to score at least one goal in order to secure a victory against Cameroon. He indicated that the team’s recent switch to a more defensive 3-4-3 formation had resulted in hard-fought wins and a draw in the group stage, and stressed that the primary goal at this stage of the competition is to win and advance to the quarter-finals.

The coach also expressed confidence in the team’s top scorer, Victor Osimhen, and predicted that the Napoli striker would start scoring again in the knockout stage. He dismissed rumors of a rift with Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, and hinted that Iheanacho may see action in the upcoming match against Cameroon.

Peseiro emphasized the importance of working with the team’s doctors to ensure Iheanacho’s full recovery and expressed belief in his ability to make a significant contribution in the competition. The much-anticipated Round of 16 tie between Nigeria and Cameroon is set to take place at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan as part of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles are set to conclude their preparations for the game with a training session at the Ecole Nationale de Police training pitch on Friday evening. The last meeting between Nigeria and Cameroon at the 2019 AFCON saw the Super Eagles emerge victorious, coming from behind to eliminate the Lions with a 3-2 victory in a thrilling encounter.
