Veteran Nigerian singer, Wasiu Alabi Odetola, better known as Pasuma, shared a glimpse into his journey to becoming a renowned fuji musician. In a recent interview with Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, Pasuma revealed that his initial passion was football. He started his career as a footballer and even had dreams of representing Nigeria at the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China.

However, fate had a different plan for Pasuma. Despite being among the four players selected from his club in Shogunle for the CODAK 85 tournament, he was ultimately not chosen to be part of the Nigerian squad for the World Cup. It was this disappointment that led Pasuma to pivot towards music as his new path.

The turning point for Pasuma came in 1984 with the release of Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde’s album, ‘Talazo ’84’. The global success and widespread popularity of the album inspired Pasuma to consider a career in music. Reflecting on this moment, Pasuma said, “The album was everywhere; worldwide. So, I decided to go into music because I was a footballer.”

Transitioning from a professional footballer to a budding musician, Pasuma embraced music wholeheartedly. He acknowledged that his journey into music was a result of a setback in his football career but emphasized that it ultimately shaped his destiny. “I was a professional footballer. So, that was how I ventured into music. The rest is history today,” Pasuma shared.

Since making the decision to pursue music, Pasuma has established himself as a household name in the Nigerian music industry. His unique blend of traditional fuji music with modern influences has endeared him to fans both locally and internationally. Over the years, he has released numerous hits and collaborated with other artists, cementing his status as a versatile and talented musician.

Beyond his music career, Pasuma has also ventured into acting, further showcasing his versatility and passion for entertainment. His contributions to the music and entertainment industry in Nigeria have earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and fans alike.

As Pasuma continues to evolve as an artist, he remains grateful for the journey that led him to where he is today. His story serves as a reminder that setbacks can often pave the way for new opportunities and that embracing change can lead to unexpected success. Pasuma’s determination and resilience in pursuing his passion for music have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the industry and inspired aspiring artists to follow their dreams, no matter the obstacles they may face.
