Nnawiri Fellowship is a week-long programme that brings together women and non-binary creative artists from various disciplines to co-create. Visual artists, poets, graphic artists, writers, songwriters, and more will merge their talents and explore the potential impact of art in the political economy space.
The multidisciplinary fellowship aims to inspire artists to create art that delves into the effects of economic policies on their communities and the influence of political economy on daily lives. The goal is to show that artists are instrumental to political change and that a small creative seed can birth a revolution. Nnawiri hopes to nurture this seed in each participant by providing space for their creations.
Participants will engage in talks and sessions with artists, poets, writers, and political theorists to broaden their political awareness. They will also collaborate and explore various artistic mediums to foster their creativity.
The main creative output will be in the form of a zine, which will include art, words, collage, and more as the format of expression. Zine making will be an integral part of the fellowship programme, and prior experience is not necessary.
Fellows will receive a stipend, and all materials, lunch, and snacks will be provided. The programme will also form a continuing alumni network, and there is potential for an exhibition of works created.
The fellowship is open to women and non-binary creatives in Kenya between the ages of 18 and 33 who are exploring art and culture. You do not need to be an established artist to apply; the programme is looking for those with interest and some experience in the subject matter.
Applications can be submitted through the provided link with a deadline of January 23, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by January 25. For additional questions, applicants can contact [email protected] or [email protected].
