Seven Seas Music is a socially responsible US-based music licensing company that has a mission to represent international artists with the highest integrity and help media creators source culturally diverse sounds. The company’s impressive client list includes Netflix, HBO, Disney, Amazon Prime, VICE, NBC, CBS, and ESPN. Additionally, Seven Seas has recently placed music in various US TV series such as Ted Lasso, What We Do in the Shadows, Vice Investigates, NCIS, Snowfall, XO Kitty, Outer Banks, and more.

Currently, Seven Seas is focused on expanding its African music content catalogue and is actively seeking submissions from all types of African music creators. They emphasize that once a song is placed in a show, over half of the fee is paid directly to the artist.

In terms of the type of music they are looking for, Seven Seas is interested in a diverse range of musical styles in all languages, not just English, including Afrobeat, Afrobeats, Highlife, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Gqom, Soukous, Bongo flava, Amapiano, Mbalax, and Rai.

To submit music for consideration, interested creators should email their songs to [email protected]. However, it is important to ensure that both the publishing and master are controlled by the artist or their team, and not by major companies like Warner, Universal, or Sony.

If chosen, Seven Seas will request the artist to sign a non-exclusive contribution agreement, outlining the songs the company is permitted to pitch for placement. The key terms of this agreement include it being non-exclusive and terminable at will. Additionally, if placed, the license fee will be divided equally, and rightsholders collect 100% of any backend performance royalties.

Upon acceptance, Seven Seas will require WAV and MP3 files of the songs, as well as accompanying instrumental versions. They will also ask for a filled-out metadata sheet and lyric sheets for songs with vocals.

For further information and inquiries, interested individuals can email [email protected] or find out more about Seven Seas Music here.
