In a bid to address the issue of youth unemployment and create more job opportunities, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has embarked on a partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to train youths in the state as data protection officers.

During a visit to the NDPC headquarters in Abuja, the governor, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, highlighted the state government’s commitment to job creation and economic stability. He emphasized the importance of equipping the youth with the necessary skills to excel in the 21st-century workplace, with an emphasis on ICT training to enhance their global competitiveness.

The governor expressed his enthusiasm for establishing a partnership with NDPC to train young graduates in Ondo state as data protection officers, citing the vast opportunities in this field. He commended the efforts of NDPC management in promoting information privacy, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Vincent Olatunji, the national commissioner of NDPC, praised the governor’s initiative and vision in initiating the partnership. He highlighted the scarcity of data protection officers in Nigeria, with only a fraction of available positions currently filled. Olatunji explained the significance of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in creating job opportunities for Nigerians, as organizations are mandated to employ data protection officers.
