Omolara Omotosho emerged as the hero of the day for Team Nigeria at the 13th Africa Games in Ghana, showcasing a remarkable performance in the 4x400m mixed relay event. Despite initial setbacks, Omotosho’s incredible effort not only secured a gold medal for Nigeria but also set a new African record in the process.
The Nigerian 4x400m mixed relay team faced tough competition during the race, with strong opponents threatening their chances of success. Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli started the race, followed by Patience Okon-George and Sikiru Adeyemi. However, it was the Botswanan third-leg runner, Bayapo Ndori, who posed a significant challenge for the Nigerian team.

Following the exhilarating 4x400m mixed relay event, Nigeria had previously missed out on gold in both the male and female 100m races. Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon clinched the gold in the men’s event with a time of 10.14 seconds, while Ushoritse Itshekiri of Nigeria took the silver in 10.23 seconds. In the women’s 100m final, Nigeria’s Olajide secured the bronze with a time of 11.55 seconds, as Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyen finished fifth. The races were won by Hainuca of Namibia and Bass Bitaye Gina Mariam of The Gambia, respectively.
