Nigerian singer Omah Lay, also known as Stanley Omah Didia, has responded to the label of “Afro-depression” that some fans have given to his style of music. In a recent interview with The Beat FM in London, United Kingdom, the singer expressed that he is not concerned with the tags that his music is given as long as his fans are enjoying it. He emphasized that he is not willing to argue with the opinions of his fans and is focused on creating his music in a way that resonates with his artistic vision.

Omah Lay stated, “I just make my music how I want to make my music. I try as much as possible to stay away from titles and everything the world is trying to put on you. Because as my guy would always say, ‘When the smokes clear, then you see clearly.’ So when you identify with those things [titles and tags] it just… I just make my music, I don’t care what anybody wants to tag it to enjoy it as long as you enjoy the music. If you feel like it’s Afro-depression, I am okay with that as long as you enjoy the music. Some other people would dance to it.”

He further emphasized that he sees his music as art and aims to leave it to the world to enjoy in their own way. He respects the opinions of his fans and acknowledges that if they enjoy his music under the label of “Afro-depression,” he is accepting of their perspective.

In conclusion, Omah Lay expressed, “It’s art. That’s what I make and I just leave the world to enjoy how they want to enjoy it. The fans have their own opinions, I would never argue with that. If that’s how they enjoy it, that’s how they enjoy it.”

Omah Lay’s response demonstrates his commitment to creating music that is authentic to his vision while respecting the diverse ways in which his fans interpret and enjoy his work. He remains focused on his artistic expression and values the enjoyment and perspectives of his audience.
