Enoch Adegoke, the 100m finalist at the Tokyo Olympics, has been confirmed as the top athlete to register for the 2024 Dynamic Athletics Outdoor Meet. The event is scheduled to take place on January 27 at the Nigerian Navy Sports Complex in Ojo, Lagos.
Adegoke made history in 2021 by becoming the first Nigerian man in 25 years to compete in the final of the 100m event at the Olympics, following in the footsteps of Davidson Ezinwa in 1996. The 22-year-old athlete will be looking to replicate the success he achieved in 2021, where he became the first wholly home-based male athlete in recent memory to qualify for the Olympics in the sprint event.
Adegoke’s remarkable 2021 performance began with a world-leading run of 10.16 seconds at the AFN All-Comers meet in Akure. This set the stage for his incredible run, which included winning the 100m gold at the National Sports Festival in Edo State and claiming the Nigerian championship title in Lagos with a winning time of 10.00 seconds, the second-fastest time after Deji Aliu, who ran 9.98 seconds in 2003.
As the 2019 African U-20 100m champion, Adegoke is eager to start his 2024 season on a high note, and the Dynamic Athletics Outdoor Meet provides the perfect platform for him to do so. Other elite athletes who have confirmed their participation in the meet include Olympian Ifeanyi Ojeli, African Games relay medalist Sikiru Adeyemi, and reigning Nigeria 100m queen Blessing Ogundiran.
The event has also received endorsements from former internationals, reputable coaches, and sports administrators. Nigeria’s 100m record holder, Olusoji Fasuba, long jump record holder Yusuf Ali, veteran coach Tony Osheku, Athletics Federation of Nigeria Performance Director Victor Okorie, and 2010 Commonwealth Games 100m finalist Peter Emelieze are among those who have backed the meet.
