Popular Nigerian singer and content creator, Oluwadolarz, recently shed light on the dynamics of relationships among skit makers and comedians in the industry. Contrary to the common belief that there is camaraderie and support among these individuals, he revealed that the reality is quite different – it is marked by intense competition.
In a candid interview with Echoo Room, Oluwadolarz expressed his disappointment at the lack of support he received from his colleagues when he released his debut EP. Despite reaching out to them for backing, he felt abandoned by those he expected to rally around him. He specifically mentioned Sydney Talker and Lord Lamba, both of whom he had close relationships with in the past, as individuals who did not extend their support to him during this critical time.
Feeling disheartened by the lack of solidarity within the content creation industry, Oluwadolarz decided to channel his experiences into a documentary project. Through this initiative, he plans to explore his life story and highlight the absence of support he faced from his peers in the industry.
Reflecting on his disappointment, Oluwadolarz shared, “I am working on a documentary. It’s going to be about my story; people that I’ve supported in the industry that did not turn up for me. I dropped an EP and not one single skit maker or comedian supported it despite reaching out to them. Funny enough, I still support them when they reach out to me even after I dropped my EP and they didn’t support.”
In a poignant recount of his relationships, Oluwadolarz revealed instances where he had extended his hospitality and support to fellow comedians, only to witness a lack of reciprocity when he needed them the most. He recounted how Sydney Talker, who had once lived with him for several months, failed to stand by him when it came to promoting his music. Similarly, Lord Lamba, who had been a guest at his birthday celebration and subsequently stayed at his place, also did not offer the support Oluwadolarz had hoped for.
Despite the setbacks he faced, Oluwadolarz acknowledged the success of his peers in the industry and expressed happiness for their achievements. He highlighted how individuals like Lord Lamba had risen to prominence and become influential figures in the comedy scene, while he himself struggled to garner the support he needed for his music project.
As Oluwadolarz navigates the complexities of the content creation industry, he remains determined to tell his story through his documentary, shedding light on the challenges he has faced and the need for greater unity and support within the community. By sharing his experiences and insights, he hopes to inspire positive change and foster a more supportive environment for aspiring artists and creators in the industry.
