Flyweight boxer, Sikiru ‘Isho’ Ogunyaju, is gearing up to take on the current national flyweight champion, Sifon ‘Best’ Iwatt, in a national challenge fight at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on May 1. Ogunyaju, confident in his abilities, believes that Iwatt’s title win was merely a stroke of luck and is determined to prove himself in the ring.

Iwatt secured his first professional title and claimed the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy at GOtv Boxing Night 30 in December after a unanimous decision victory over Saheed ‘Eagle’ Azeez. However, Ogunyaju is not impressed and believes that Iwatt’s victory was due to circumstances beyond his control. In an interview leading up to the fight, Ogunyaju made it clear that he intends to give Iwatt a run for his money on May Day.

“He was lucky to be the champion. I heard that his initial opponent for that fight pulled out. I am going to give him a proper fight. This one will be tougher than his title fight,” Ogunyaju stated confidently. With determination and skill on his side, Ogunyaju is focused on proving himself as a formidable opponent and potentially claiming the flyweight title for himself.

The boxing event will also feature a 10-round West African Boxing Union (WABU) light welterweight title clash between Segun “War” Adeyemi and Adeyemi “Spirit” Adekanla. Additionally, fans can expect to see exciting matchups in the national welterweight, super welterweight, national catchweight, national lightweight, and light welterweight categories.

Raheem “Baddo” Animashaun will go head-to-head with Samuel “Apata Roro” Moses in the welterweight challenge fight, while Afikun Gbenga and Adewale Oladeji will battle it out in the super welterweight category. In the national catchweight division, Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan will face off against Batholomew Abuchi, and Emmanuel Abimbola will take on Azeez Ayobami in the national lightweight category. The event will culminate in a matchup between Hammed ‘Ese’ Ganiyu and Yusuf Ogunbumi in the light welterweight category.

With an action-packed lineup of fights and fierce competitors ready to take to the ring, the boxing event promises to be an adrenaline-pumping spectacle for fans. As Ogunyaju sets his sights on challenging Iwatt for the flyweight title, the stage is set for a showdown that is sure to keep spectators on the edge of their seats. Stay tuned for an unforgettable night of boxing prowess and sportsmanship at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall on May 1.
