The 50th anniversary celebration of former Rangers International Football Club player, captain, and manager, Christian Chukwu, will be marked with a keynote address delivered by the former Sports Minister, Jim Nwobodo. The event is set to take place on Thursday, with the highlight being a novelty match between Ex-Rangers players and All Stars at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Chris GistoMma, unveiled the program for the anniversary celebration and highlighted Nwobodo’s qualifications to present the keynote address. Nwobodo, a former chairman of Enugu Rangers and a staunch supporter of the club, played a significant role during the glorious era of the team. Mma emphasized the importance of states in the former East Central State taking care of ex-Rangers players who brought honor and pride to the region.
Following the novelty match, the celebration will continue at the Amadeo Event Centre, located behind the Oakland Hotel in Ebeano Tunnel, Enugu, starting at 1:00 p.m. A book titled ‘The Field Marshall’ which chronicles Chukwu’s career will also be launched at the occasion.
Various personalities are expected to attend the event, including governors from the southeast states, with Governor Peter Mba of Enugu hosting the celebration. Other distinguished guests include former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, and the president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu. Renowned football players such as Kanu Nwankwo, Adokiye Amasiemeka, Emma Okala, and Jonny Egbonu are also expected to grace the occasion.
