The National Resistance Movement is gearing up to commence the party membership renewal and registration exercise nationwide, scheduled to begin on Wednesday. In a meeting with party mobilizers on Tuesday, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, Head of the Office of the National Chairman, emphasized that the purpose of the exercise is to expand the ruling party’s membership base in preparation for the 2026 general elections.

The five-day exercise, running from March 13 to 17, will involve renewing existing memberships and registering new members. Namyalo highlighted the importance of verifying the active status of current members and removing those who are no longer participating, particularly deceased members. The goal is to ensure a clean and updated party register, known as the “yellow book,” as the initial step in the party’s roadmap for internal and general elections.

Namyalo urged caution during the exercise to prevent any corrupt practices by party members seeking personal gains that conflict with party rules. She encouraged coordinators to actively recruit new members, surpassing current membership levels, as numbers hold significant influence in elections. Each district and city coordinator has been assigned the task of securing a minimum of 10 new members from each village.

During the launch of the exercise last month, President Museveni, also the party chairman, emphasized the importance of understanding the NRM’s foundational principles: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy. He stressed the need for party cadres to grasp these principles in order to effectively address the issues facing Ugandans.

“Mobilization, meetings, and other efforts will be more successful if rooted in the NRM principles. These principles serve as a diagnosis of Uganda’s challenges. It’s essential to educate and enlighten Ugandans to bring about the desired socio-economic transformation in the country,” President Museveni remarked.

With the upcoming party membership renewal and registration exercise, the NRM aims to solidify its support base and prepare for the upcoming general elections. By emphasizing adherence to party principles and actively recruiting new members, the NRM is working towards strengthening its position and advancing its agenda for the benefit of Ugandans.

As the exercise kicks off, party members, mobilizers, and coordinators are urged to uphold integrity, diligence, and commitment to the party’s values. Through this concerted effort, the NRM seeks to build a strong foundation for future success and progress in serving the people of Uganda.
