Enyimba of Aba put on an impressive display in their first game at the Enugu Zone of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) U-17 League, coming back from a one goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against Abia Warriors. The match, which took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, saw George Bassey of the Umuahia Warriors scoring in the 67th minute. However, Enyimba managed to even the score, resulting in each team earning a point.
Before the start of the game, players from participating clubs such as Enyimba, Heartland, Abia Warriors, and Enugu Rangers underwent thorough screening by a committee overseen by former Abia Warriors Chairman, Pastor Emeka Inyama, who also serves as the chairman of the NPFL Youth League. The rigorous process ensured that all players were eligible to compete in the league.
Following the exciting match between Enyimba and Abia Warriors, Enugu Rangers took the field in the evening to face off against Heartland of Owerri in the second game of the day. The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for Rangers, showcasing the competitive nature of the league.
In other zones across the country, several thrilling matches took place. In the North Central zone, Loboi Stars emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Kwara United, while Plateau United delivered an impressive 4-0 victory against Niger Tornadoes. Meanwhile, in the Southwest zone, Sporting Lagos and Sunshine Stars played to a 2-2 draw, and Remo Stars secured a narrow 3-2 win against Shooting Stars.
The South South zone witnessed an intense battle between Bendel Insurance and Rivers United, resulting in a 2-2 draw, while Bayelsa United claimed a 1-0 victory over Akwa United. In the North East zone, the game between Kano Pillars and Katsina United ended in a goalless draw, highlighting the closely contested matches taking place across the country.
