The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has made the decision to reschedule week 28 matches that were originally set to take place this weekend. The new date for these matches will be Wednesday, April 3. While the league did not provide a specific reason for this change, it is believed to be related to Rivers United’s upcoming Confederation Cup game happening this weekend. The Chief Executive Officer of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, informed league workers of this decision during their last meeting and also notified the clubs involved.

Rivers United had previously been informed that their Week 27, 28, and 29 matches against Sunshine Stars, Katsina United, and Abia Warriors respectively have been postponed in order to allow the team to focus on their CAF Confederation Cup match against USM Alger. This crucial game will be taking place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday. The NPFL has also made the affected teams aware of the change in schedule and will be announcing new dates for these matches soon.

As it stands after 27 matches, Enugu Rangers currently sit at the top of the NPFL table with 48 points. They are closely followed by Lobi Stars in second place just one point behind, and Remo Stars and Enyimba in third and fourth place respectively, with goal difference being the deciding factor between the two teams.

Some of the key matchups to look out for in week 28 include Enyimba taking on Kano Pillars in Aba, and Sporting Lagos facing Lobi Stars in Lagos. Rangers International will be hosting Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa will be playing against relegation-threatened Heartland of Owerri, and Gombe United will welcome Remo Stars to their home ground. Abia Warriors will be going up against Plateau United, Shooting Stars will be hosting Kwara United, Bendel Insurance will face off against Niger Tornadoes, and Doma United will be traveling to Uyo to take on Akwa United.

These rescheduled matches are crucial for all teams involved as they look to secure their positions in the league and compete for the top spots. Fans can expect some exciting football action as the NPFL continues to showcase the best of Nigerian football talent.
