The National Institute for Sports (NIS) in Lagos, in partnership with the Adamawa State government, has kicked off a five-day training workshop aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of coaches, sports administrators, games masters, and Physical and Health Education teachers in the North East region. The program, which was officially opened on Tuesday by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, has attracted over 200 participants from various parts of the state and is scheduled to conclude over the weekend.

In his remarks on the first day of the workshop, Professor Farauta expressed hope that the training would produce athletes who can compete at a global level. He also highlighted the Governor’s commitment to using sports as a tool to combat social vices in the state. The timing of the workshop, just before the commencement of the Governor’s Cup in Adamawa State, is seen as an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained towards the development of grassroots sports in the region.

Professor Farauta commended the efforts of the Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, Professor Olawale Moronkola, and other resource persons for organizing the workshop in Adamawa State. He emphasized that the program aligns with Governor Fintiri’s vision of discovering talents and empowering youth through sports. Participants were encouraged to make the best use of the opportunity to enhance their skills and contribute positively to sports development in the state.

Professor Moronkola, in his address, highlighted the significance of sports as an activity that involves physical exertion and skill development among individuals and groups. He stressed the role of sports in promoting unity, diplomacy, skill development, youth empowerment, public health, and peacekeeping. The partnership with the Adamawa State government aims to empower and enhance the capacity of staff members to deliver better services in the sports sector.

The training workshop provides a platform for participants to learn from experienced professionals and exchange ideas on best practices in sports coaching, administration, and physical education. Through interactive sessions and practical activities, attendees are expected to gain valuable insights that can be applied in their respective roles. The collaborative effort between NIS and the Adamawa State government underscores the importance of investing in human capital development to drive sports excellence and youth empowerment in the region.

Overall, the training workshop serves as a catalyst for the growth and development of sports in Adamawa State, with a focus on nurturing talents, promoting healthy lifestyles, and instilling values of teamwork and discipline among participants. By equipping coaches, administrators, and educators with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program aims to create a thriving sports ecosystem that benefits the community at large. The commitment and support from both NIS and the state government demonstrate a shared dedication to advancing sports development and building a brighter future for aspiring athletes in the region.
