The tenure of former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello has come to an end, as new Governor Usman Ododo was sworn into office. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
Usman Ododo, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in Kogi, emerged as the winner with 446,237 votes, defeating his closest rivals, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who garnered 259,052 votes, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 46,362 votes.
Chukwuka Ofoegbu, who spoke with Legit.ng about the victory of Ododo, expressed optimism about the new governor’s potential, stating that he was considered the best option among the available candidates during the election. Ofoegbu noted that Ododo’s deep pockets and political legacy from the election campaign were influential in his victory.
In view of the new leadership in Kogi state, there are high expectations from the people towards Ododo’s performance as he assumes the role of governor. Considering his background and the margin by which he won the election, citizens have shown confidence in his ability to lead the state effectively.
The swearing-in ceremony was a colourful event attended by notable political figures, signifying a smooth transition of power in Kogi. In attendance were dignitaries including the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, who all came to witness the official handover of leadership from the former governor, Yahaya Bello, to Usman Ododo.
