Philanthropist David Ubogu is on a mission to launch a top-tier football academy in Delta State, joining the ranks of the nation’s leading football academies dedicated to nurturing young, talented footballers. International football star Yakubu Aiyegbeni, as well as Belgium and Australia football clubs, have pledged to collaborate with Ubogu in bringing his vision to life.

In a conversation with reporters in Asaba, Ubogu, a native of Delta State currently residing in the United Kingdom, explained that the ‘Ubogu Football Academy’ will primarily cater to youth from across Nigeria, providing them with the necessary knowledge and training in football. The objective is to equip young footballers with the skills and opportunities needed to excel both domestically and internationally.

Preparations for the academy’s launch are in the final stages, with a scheduled yearly football tournament for individuals aged 14 to 19 set to take place in May in Asaba. This tournament aims to raise awareness and create avenues for young footballers to showcase their talents and skills. Participants can anticipate the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field.

During the tournament, outstanding players will be recognized with trophies, medals, and prizes for the top three positions. Director General Ezeagwu Jeff emphasized the academy’s commitment to identifying talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, offering them opportunities for personal and professional growth in the lucrative sports industry. Jeff further highlighted the interest shown by numerous states, particularly those in the South-South and Southeast regions, in participating in the upcoming football tournament.

Ubogu’s initiative seeks to not only elevate the level of football talent in Nigeria but also to provide young individuals with a pathway to success in the sport. By partnering with renowned figures in the football world and organizing events such as the upcoming tournament, Ubogu aims to create a platform for aspiring footballers to hone their skills and fulfill their potential. The ‘Ubogu Football Academy’ promises to be a transformative force in the landscape of Nigerian football, shaping the next generation of athletes and nurturing a culture of excellence and achievement.
