The Zamfara State Government has recently taken steps to verify the status of 3,079 retirees in order to address the longstanding issue of unpaid gratuities owed to them by previous administrations. According to a statement released by Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, retired state and local government workers have not received their gratuities since 2011, leading to significant financial strain for many pensioners.

In an effort to alleviate this burden, the government has already made progress by disbursing two tranches of payments totaling N2,312,841,065.08 to 1,746 pensioners from both the state and local governments. This move has brought much-needed relief to retirees who have been waiting for years to receive their entitled benefits.

The statement further highlighted that the second tranche of verified pensioners’ gratuity payments began recently, marking a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to addressing the issue. The ongoing verification process aims to ensure that all eligible retirees receive their rightful entitlements in a timely manner.

Specifically, the second tranche of payments for verified pensioners from the state saw 413 individuals receive a total of approximately NGN 682,228,647.38. Similarly, the payment process for verified pensioners from local governments has also commenced, with 403 individuals receiving a total amount of N449,667,142.08. Overall, out of the 3,079 pensioners who have been verified, 1,746 have already received their gratuity payments, amounting to N2,312,841,065.08.

The government’s efforts to verify and authenticate retirees are ongoing, with a commitment to making payments to those who have been cleared as part of the process. This systematic approach is aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in the disbursement of gratuity payments, ultimately providing much-needed financial support to retirees who have dedicated their careers to serving the state and local governments.

The recent actions taken by the Zamfara State Government reflect a commitment to good governance and accountability in addressing the welfare of retirees. By prioritizing the payment of overdue gratuities and implementing a transparent verification process, the government is demonstrating its dedication to honoring its obligations to pensioners and ensuring their financial security in retirement.

As the verification process continues and more payments are made to eligible retirees, the Zamfara State Government is working towards resolving a long-standing issue and providing relief to pensioners who have been awaiting their rightful benefits for far too long. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the welfare of its retirees and fostering a culture of accountability and transparency in governance.
