Bashir Ahmad, the former special assistant on digital communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has observed some areas in Abuja that are dangerous. In a tweet posted on his Twitter account, Ahmad raised concerns about the safety of residents in certain areas in Abuja due to inadequate street lighting. His tweet has since gone viral and this has led to negative criticism towards Buhari’s government as some Nigerians have urged him to tread carefully.
In the tweet, Ahmad urged Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fix street lights in some dangerous spots within the territory. He highlighted the absence of adequate lighting on the streets of prominent districts such as Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki, and the Central Business District, describing them as “naturally dangerous to be at night.”
The reactions to Ahmad’s call to Wike from Nigerians have been mixed. Some have criticised him for not acting on these issues during his time in the Villa, while others have supported his advice.
Meanwhile, Wike has revealed the arrests of some persons in connection with feeding bandits with information in the territory, assuring residents of the Gwagwalada area that there will be improvements in the security situation in the FCT in the coming days.
In separate incidents, 85 people were abducted by ‘bandits’ in several Kaduna communities, occurring between January 4 and January 7, 2024. These incidents have raised concerns about the security and safety of residents across these areas.
