Jigawa state governor, Umar Namadi, has taken a commendable step by approving the immediate payment of N30,000 salary awards to workers in the state. This decision comes at a time when economic hardships are rampant in the country, and the gesture is aimed at providing some relief to the hardworking civil servants in Jigawa.
Workers in the state can expect to start receiving alerts of N20,000 for January and February starting on Monday. Additionally, they are also set to receive another N10,000 by the end of March. This move was part of an agreement reached between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state and the government to address the impact of the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Governor Umar Namadi’s decision to provide this salary award demonstrates a genuine concern for the welfare of civil servants in Jigawa. It is a welcome relief for employees who have been facing financial challenges due to the prevailing economic conditions in the country. All civil servants in Jigawa are set to benefit from this initiative, with each receiving N10,000 for three months under the new package.
According to Premium Times, the salary award was part of the agreement between the state government and the NLC. The palliative measure was announced in a statement from the office of Muhammad Dagaceri, the head of the civil service in Jigawa. This move is aimed at cushioning the effects of the recent removal of the fuel subsidy and providing much-needed support to the workforce in the state.
Dagaceri explained that the distribution of the cash palliative would commence soon, with civil servants receiving alerts for the two-month payment starting from March 4th. The remaining month of March would be paid by the end of the month. Additionally, the state government is planning to distribute food items to civil servants as part of the palliative measures, with a committee already in place to oversee the process.
In a related development, former Senator Shehu Sani highlighted the importance of proper utilization of security funds by governors to address insecurity in the country. He noted the absence of banditry and terrorism in states like Kano and Jigawa, raising questions about why such security challenges are not prevalent in those regions.
Overall, Governor Umar Namadi’s decision to approve the N30,000 salary award for workers in Jigawa reflects a commendable effort to alleviate the financial burden on civil servants in the state. It underscores a commitment to the well-being of employees and serves as a significant gesture of support during these challenging times.
